About Bloubergstrand Beach

Bloubergstrand Beach (or what used to be Blaauwberg Beach or Table View Beach) is well known to be one of the best locations to get the perfect view of Table Mountain. Much of the promotional material advertising Cape Town as a tourist destination include spectacular photos of Table Mountain taken from or near Bloubergstrand Beach, capturing Table Bay, Table Mountain and the City Bowl.

Bloubergstrand is mostly frequented by kitesurfers and surfers further to the northern end. The prevailing winds that blow most of the year run at the perfect angle along the shoreline for Kite Boarding and these winds also ensure one to three metre swell for the surfers.

While the beach is said to have disability access, its very limited and in most instances the wooden foot paths providing access to the beach, between the dunes, are mostly damaged by the elements. The small dunes themselves are part of a ‘dune restoration project’ and you are encouraged not to walk over them.

Towards the northern end of the beach, a slipway provides access to the beach for the occasional ‘motor boat race’ or jet ski enthusiast, but I believe there are regulations in place as to who can make use of this facility.

Swimming is possible, but not ideal, due to the strong back and side currents. Bloubergstrand is a long relatively flat beach stretching from it’s northern point approximately 4.8Km south where crosses over Dolphin Beach and then joins with Sunset Beach. This makes it a popular beach for beach walks, running and dog walking, but make sure to keep your dogs on a leash and please pick up after them.

Free parking facilities are found along a large extent of the beach, which also make for a relatively safe place for walking, running and cycling, with activities starting pretty early in the morning.

Opposite the beach from Marine Circle heading north, there are plenty of restaurants, bars, surf (or kite-boarding) schools and both holiday and residential accommodations. In the afternoons and evenings or over the weekends the area is a relatively busy social hub.

Additional Information

Bloubergstrand Beach is popular with Wind-Surfers and can be very windy particularly in the summer months. The promenade running alongside provides plenty of parking, but this fills quickly on good days. The Bloubergstrand Promenade is also popular with runners, cyclists & families walking or walking their dogs. There are many street vendors pedalling food, ice-creams and various other trinkets…

Across the street are many popular restaurants, bars, fast food outlets, shops and accommodation venues. You will also find many other small businesses ranging from Real Estate Agents, Lawyers, Doctors and more, within walking distance of the beach front.
